The Carnaby Virtual Tour.

You have a blank panel on the left of your browser, this is where the Java 'Hyper Space' application will appear shortly, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

The message window (status bar) at the very bottom of your web browser should be giving confirmation of 'applets loading'. - if not - please ensure that you are using a Java compatible browser and that Java is enabled in the preferences. (Also try clicking the right mouse button on the purple area below the applet area and choose the 'reload' or 'refresh' option - Win95/NT).

This is where we show you what you will see, and how to use the brand-spanking-new Java application we have built for you, and what all the extra buttons do.
Virtual Carnaby in HyperSpace
'HyperSpace'

There are two components:
· The 360° Photographic view
· The Map

You can move around Virtual Carnaby either using the photographic view at the top or from the map at the bottom. The two halves are fully dynamically interactive with each other, and both can activate the web page on the right.


· When the photographic view has loaded, move the mouse pointer onto the BOTTOM of the picture, hold down the LEFT mouse button and drag to the left or right to turn to view all the shops around you.
When you see a shop you wish to know more about, then stop turning and hover the mouse pointer over the shop front or door. shoplinkIf they have a web page then you will see a green outline appear as your mouse moves over that shop, simply double click the left mouse button and the shop page will appear for you to view, in this side of your browser.
movelinkWhen you wish to move forward turn the view so that you are looking down the street that you wish to travel, hover the mouse pointer over the middle distance, a blue outline is defined, double click here and the Virtual Tour will progress you in that direction to the next photographic view.


· The Map
The lower half of the HyperSpace application displays your position and the direction in which you are facing in Virtual Carnaby.
To move the map in any direction drag the scroll bars up/down and left/right in order to view the area.
When the mouse pointer is positioned over any of the shops the name of the shop will be displayed. Double click and the web page for the shop will be called to the right page.
Other pins on the map indicate the current state of the available photographic views.
 
 
The Map
You Are Here current postion This pin is your current position and the direction in which you are facing.
loaded loaded The view for this area has loaded, you may move here simply by clicking on it once.
loading loading This pin indicates that the view for that area is loading.
not loaded yet to load This pin indicates that the view for that area has not yet loaded. You may load this area by clicking on it.
trail current postion These pins mark all the areas you have visited.
zoom bar zoom bar The magnification on the map can be changed by clicking on any of the major green dots below the map.
 
 
The Standard Navigation Buttons
home home_button This always takes you to the Carnaby front page or 'home page'.
back back_button Moves back through the pages or the positions viewed previously.
forward forward_button Moves forward through the pages or the positions viewed previously.
 
 
Additional Buttons for the Virtual Tour
info This button calls up an additional window which is the 'Colour Map Selector' for the colour coding of the different shop types. Click the check boxes on or off to dynamically activate the colours on the Map below the Virtual Tour (press this button again to close the pallet).
caching caching_button If you have a fast connection to the Internet and a fast computer, try the Hi option to optimise your progress in the tour.
If your computer is finding it hard work, try the Lo option, It should be smoother.
help help_button This button will call up the page you are reading now, to assist you on the Virtual Tour.
