The shop was opened in Newburgh Street, Soho, in September 1988.
The company was set up to promote and sell the work of English designer jewellers, who at that time were not represented by other jewellery stores in London and had resorted to selling though clothing boutiques. The initial collections from designers such as Tom Binns, Dinny Hall and Jacqueline Rabun, featured precious materials (as opposed to gold/silver plated brass) as there was no longer the restraint of having to produce inexpensive items that were sold at point of sale. We still stock the best of British designers, and now a few from further afield such as Vas Ludacer and Luisa Bini. (U.S.A. and Italy) The company has always viewed itself as a jewellers rather than a gallery, with a full after sales service, and its own range of precious jewellery. Using the highest quality materials and workmanship. Spurning low carat gold's and working in 18ct gold, platinum and sterling silver, offset with high quality diamonds (f-g colour and no lower than vvs1) and unusual coloured stones such as faceted fire opals and green diamonds. The precious collections currently available include an enamel range. Designed for friends who wanted jewellery that had some colour but was still practical to wear. The enamel is protected by the channel setting, producing a range that can been worn to the ball and still allow you to rummage for change in your jeans pocket the next day. There is also our range of body jewellery, that is most definitely not street, with diamond encrusted platinum and gold belly and nipple pieces that are as exquisite as unusual. If ever there was a need for a jewellers to have a "private viewing room" body jewellery is it. The eclipse collection allows you to wear more than one ring, but with far more elegance than the normal "stack of rings", with diamonds hanging off of edges in some seemingly precarious settings. The Prayer Ring launched in December 1997 is inspired by the use of prayer or worry beads across many cultures in prayer or meditation. Jess Canty its designer (store co founder, owner) decided that a discrete and more elegant alternative had a place in today's stressful, chain smoking nail biting, pill popping world. The ring comes in two forms "2 part", "3 part". The first is the more mechanical masculine style, the second is more free moving and sleek. Each ring is available in a combination of 18ct gold and platinum at prices from £980.00. Jess James plays a role in the promotion of precious jewellery to a younger but no less wealthy generation, through its association with music, fashion and film personalities. We attract a clientele that is normally wary of jewellery shops and therefore do not have any direct competition. We also work closely with DeBeers on the new directions and uses for diamonds in jewellery and have hosted their annual "Diamond solitaire" show. We now operate
a mail order service and a catalogue can be ordered by phone. |
